Cleanup Day #4

Yesterday was a beautiful day! From the impromptu spoken word and song by Rockhurst students, to the sun peeking through the newly formed opening between the trees, it was an amazing day of progress towards our end goal! We were also able to share the next set of conceptual renderings provided to us by Populous!

We will likely have a 5th and final cleanup effort at some point in the near future. In the meantime we are working on clarifying our hard project costs before we officially begin fundraising. Our next steps will include thorough community engagement.

Thank you again to all that supported this event! This is a true community effort and it’s amazing to see what we’ve been able to accomplish as a collective! Thank you to Clark Stinson and Jonathan Henry for providing photography and videography.

The event blessed my son the most. He said yesterday is a day he’ll never forget!

February 2021 Update

Last year we were able to raise well over 100k of actual cash and value towards this project. At the end of the year following the generous contributions of GEHA, Populous officially made this project a pro bono project for their company. We’ve been working with them on valuing and mapping out the project.

I’ve been reaching out personally to community stakeholders ensuring that the community is involved every step of the way.

We are coordinating our next cleanup event to be held sometime in late March or April. Our website is being developed by a very generous volunteer and is sick!!! We also have a Paseo alum managing the project and another alum now helping to envision the projects brand. (WE>ME)

I’m excited at the progress we are seeing and just wanted to provide a quick update. As we get closer to the next phase; community involvement, feedback, support and ownership will be the sole focus. I hope everyone is healthy, safe and warm today.

Our collective progress takes the intentions and actions of those in this group and many more. Thank you for all who have chipped in and continue to do so!

Our 3rd cleanup day was hosted on October 24, 2020. Thank you to everyone who came out today! As a collective we can move mountains! We also have officially received our first funding towards the project, thanks to our friends at GEHA.

Cleanup Day #2

Our second cleanup day was hosted on August 22nd, 2020. It was a beautiful day. So many hearts coming together for progress through hard work. Thank you to everyone that attended and labored with us! Click here to watch the news clip from the event.

July 2020 Update

I have been officially informed that our project was named by GEHA as an official cause that will be supported by their “MOVES” wellness campaign. Depending on how many moves the employees make during a set timeframe will determine how much the cause will be financially supported!

Additionally, As we await those results I have teamed up with KCPS, Rockhurst University & KCMO to facilitate our second Paseo Stairs service day. It will be held August 22nd from 9:30AM-12PM. We will be respecting social distancing recommendations and asking all in attendance to wear their masks. We will have extra on hand for anyone that forgets or needs a mask to participate. The goal of the outing will be to clear another large portion of overgrowth, invasive honeysuckle & litter on the South side of the stairs. In addition to face coverings we ask that you wear durable, safe shoes and bring gloves or extra work tools.

Before we start working we’ll share the updated vision of the site and any developments. I’m grateful for the interest in The Paseo Stairs project and only hope to keep building momentum towards an official project launch!

Cleanup Day #1

We’ve been working with the School board to secure our next Paseo Stairs cleanup day! It is short notice but we will be doing round two of our cleanup effort March 21st from 9AM - 12PM. The effort is very simple as we will be moving further into the brush on the south side of the stairs and will be removing invasive weeds and trash.

The weather may be nice but I’m suggesting durable pants and long sleeve shirts to limit scratches. We also recommend wearing boots or durable shoes as the cleanup is on a hillside. Lastly please bring gloves and come ready to work! We’ll provide tools, refreshments and Great vibes!

This is a dream that is beginning to take shape! We look forward to seeing all of you!
